SYLVAN BEACH, NY – After banning swimming last summer, Sylvan Beach has decided to allow people to swim from the village-owned beach this summer. The 125-foot area of shoreline behind what was Pfohl’s Beach House and is now DiCastro’s on the eastern end of Oneida Lake will be open, Sylvan Beach village officials said.

Why is there no swimming at Sylvan Beach?
The county says the village would have to enforce the no-swimming requirement by asking people to leave the water if they are in no-swimming area. Last season, swimming at Sylvan Beach was closed for more than 30 days due to the presence of blue-green algae in the water, Horan said.
