What is a conservatoire course?
A conservatoire is a college for the study of music and the arts, typically in the continental European tradition. Each student is assigned to a department, depending on their discipline, to begin their committed and exclusive study of their instruments or performance art.
Do drama schools use UCAS?
If you’ve decided you want to do further studying at university, college or drama school, you will need to apply using a UCAS application (some drama schools are an exception to this).
What is DaDA funding?
Dance and Drama Award Funding. The Dance and Drama Awards (DaDA) is a type of performing arts funding for students. DaDA funding supports young talented students with help towards the cost of their performing arts training.
Can you apply for conservatoires and universities?
You can apply to both universities and conservatoires if you wish. (You’ll just need to create separate logins and profiles for each UCAS and UCAS Conservatoires.)
What conservatoires are on UCAS?
The conservatoires in the UCAS Conservatoires scheme are:
- Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
- Bristol Old Vic Theatre School.
- Leeds Conservatoire.
- Royal Academy of Music.
- Royal College of Music.
- Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

- Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Can I apply to UCAS and UCAS conservatoires?
Do you have to pay a Dada back?
All funding awarded is in the form of a grant not a loan, so it does not need to be paid back in the future. A student’s contribution to fees will be the same irrespective of which DaDA provider s/he chooses to study with.
Can you get a maintenance loan with a Dada?
If you are awarded a DaDA, you will not be eligible to apply for a Government Loan i.e. a tuition fee loan or maintenance loan through Student Finance.
Do conservatoires do clearing?
Conservatoires do not use the Clearing process. Any UCAS Conservatoires places still available are listed in our search tool. Check details of the course you want to apply for, and contact the conservatoire to check if they’re still accepting applications for this year.
