Can pickguards be removed?

Can pickguards be removed?

Thin Martin pickguards like this one usually come off cleanly when you get under them with bridge removal knives. Sometimes a little heat helps things along — that’s what I’m using the desk lamp for here. Don’t leave it heating long; you just want to warm it, then gently lift the plastic as it releases.

What’s the purpose of a pickguard?

A device applied to the surface of a guitar (or bass, etc.) to protect its finish from scratches that may occur due to picks scraping across the top while playing. Pick guards are usually made from some type of plastic, although metal and other materials are sometimes used.

How thick should a metal pickguard be?

It is essential when fitting pick guards to acoustic guards that the material does not exceed 2mm in thickness as this is known to reduce the sound vibration. If the material exceeds 2mm of thickness then it is likely to affect both the tone and volume of the instrument.

Are Fender and Squier pickguards the same?

It depends. Fender varied the exact size and screw-hole placements on its pickguards over the years and Squier has copied several of those models too, leading to some minor variations. Check online with your Squier’s S/N before you buy.

Does pickguard thickness affect tone?

The answer is yes, but it turns out to be more complex than the reason for an acoustic. The more resonant or “alive” a guitar is, the more a pickguard can affect its natural tone, and thus, the amplified sound.

What kind of pickguard do I need for Strat?

Pickguard blank (10″ x 12″) with adhesive back for acoustic. Pickguard for original US Jazzmaster ®, (13 screw holes). Accessory kit for Strat ®, 1-ply spring cover, 3 PU covers, 1 vol., 2 tone, 1 switch, 1 arm knob. Pickguard for Tele ®, cut for humbucking, (8 screw holes).

Can you make a guitar pickguard left handed?

Any pattern we offer can be made left handed. If your guitar wasn’t “born” with a pickguard, we would not have a template. If you do not see a listing for your particular model, we do not currently have a template for it. If you are willing to send your original, we will duplicate from it and return it with the duplicate we make.
